➤ The sustainable main material: Trembesi
Trembesi, also known as rainbow wood, is native to South America. This means that no rainforest needs to be cut down to harvest it in Indonesia. The fast-growing trees are typically planted for decorative purposes in urban areas, where their branches are regularly pruned to keep growth under control. The wood is then reused, often for furniture production. Our trembes wood has a similar colour and grain to teak, but with a much better durability profile.
Other material: rattan
➤ Our production partners: selected based on fair trade criteria
This stool is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local production partners, we focus on fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are all experienced craftsmen of legal age. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in the craft sector, which allows them to use the skills they have learned from an early age to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are that they can create something meaningful with this work and earn a good income. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process produces hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We guarantee all this through regular site visits and continuous personal contact with the companies.
➤ The production process: from raw material to finished stool
