Every glance at this cushion reminds us of the sound of the sea and the gentle breeze. With its airy fringes and sun-bleached fabric, Tarakan conjures up a tropical beach feeling in the home. The round shape offers a nice change from the usual angular cushions and especially in combination with it a beautiful contrast unfolds.

The creation of this artistic cushion requires a lot of patience and intuition. The starting material is dried raffia fibres, which are woven into this enchanting round cushion using the traditional knotting needle technique. This approach gives the cushion its characteristic texture and depth. Tarakan is filled with a mix of cotton and coconut fibres that retain their thick, round shape over time. The cushion is available in two sizes.

Our cushions are made from plant fibres, so they smell and feel wonderfully like nature.

Raffia (Corypha utan) is native to the steppe and forest regions of Southeast Asia. Approximately every two years, the plant renews its leaves and sheds the old ones, which are then collected by humans, dried in the sun for several days to weeks and processed into wickerwork depending on the desired degree of browning. Its relative rarity and the higher processing effort make this material somewhat more expensive compared to other plant fibers. Although it is hardly known in Europe, the material has proven itself in Southeast Asia among the local population in the form of all kinds of everyday utensils and is very popular due to its pleasantly soft, yet robust character.
